Literacy Board |
|
The Wood County District Public Library is committed to developing a model Family Literacy plan and serving as a referral center for services and materials in Wood County. The library will serve as a catalyst to markedly reduce illiteracy countywide through a coalition effort with area libraries, other literacy programs operating in the county, social service agencies, businesses, community groups, and educational organizations. An advisory board assists with advocacy, referrals, promotion, community input, and funding.
|
A partial listing of current Library Family Literacy activities include:
|
-A diverse collection of reading, software, video, and audio materials for beginning readers (children and adults) at the Library
-Outreach visits to the Wood County Health Department
-Outreach visits to Martha's Kitchen, a weekly community meal at the First United Methodist Church
-Outreach visits to area childcare centers
-Books for Babies, a gift for newborns at the Wood County Hospital
-Puppet Pals, America Reads tutoring program for children at the Library with tutors from the Martha Weber Reading Center, BGSU WBGU-TV literacy programs for families at the Library Participation in the Summer Reading Program
