From the Director, Winter 2024
With another year in the books, we’re looking back on all of the fantastic things we’ve done over 2023 and planning for another busy year at the library. We had a variety of successes over the course of 2023: an incredible Winter Reads program for adults, our ever-popular Summer Reading Program where over 1,300 youth came All Together Now to read, an engaging and inspiring Foundation Series visit with Sesame Street’s “Maria,” Sonia Manzano, and plenty of other things in between.
It was a night of community when we gathered to hear Sonia Manzano speak on her experience growing up in the South Bronx this fall. Many families, teens, children, and adults came out to listen to her speak and to get their bestselling books signed. From the beginning of the Foundation Series in 2017, we’ve set out to bring high-caliber authors and speakers to our community, and we hope to continue our goals of inspiring, educating, and discovering much more in the future. You can sign up for our newsletter at wcdpl.org/newsletter to be the first to hear about new Foundation Series author visits in 2024!
As we plan for 2024, we have plenty of exciting events. Not only do we have local authors coming to the library to talk about their books, but we also have award-winning author Traci Sorell visiting the library. Sorrel is a children’s, middle grade, and young adult fiction author best known for her book Classified: The Secret Career of Mary Golda Ross, Cherokee Aerospace Engineer. We look forward to welcoming her on March 23 at 10:00 am in the Bowling Green Library Atrium, and you can learn more about her visit here.
Don’t forget that winter is the perfect time to curl up with a good book, and our Winter Reads program makes it even easier to get involved with the library. Pick up your submission forms in the library or visit wcdpl.org/winter-reads for the online submission form, and start reading! Every book you read is one entry, and you’ll get the chance to win great prizes like a $100 Visa Gift Card or an iPad. Thank you to Bowling Green Manor and Heritage Health Care, who generously support this year’s Winter Reads program. You can find out more about Winter Reads here.
As we enter a new year, we hope you join us for a program, event, or simply to pick up a new read or browse our collection. If you would like to show your appreciation and support of the library, I encourage you to make a donation to the WCDPL Foundation. Thank you for your support of the library!
See you at the library,
